Crispy orange chicken is one of the most popular dishes to have at your local Chinese takeout. And it’s not hard to see why. It’s a sweet, tangy, sticky orange sauce that coats crispy pieces of white or dark meat chicken. And with our simple instructions, you can make it at home – way better than your local takeout.

In order to make this delicious dish, you will need the following ingredients:
Ingredients
250 g Boneless Chicken Thigh/Breast
1 cup Corn flour (starch)
1 egg
2-3 tbsp of water
1/2 tsp grated ginger
1 tsp grated garlic
1/2 tsp Crushed chilli flakes ( optional )
Spring onion as garnish
Toasted sesame seed for garnish
1 tbsp Vegetable oils
Oil for frying ( Peanut/Canola/Sunflower or any neutral flavour vegetable oil )
1 tsp Orange Zest
For Orange Sauce
3 tbsp Orange Juice (fresh squeeze)
2 tbsp Light soy sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar (or white sugar/ honey
1/2 cup Chicken/vegetable broth (or water)
1 tsp Corn starch, flour
Marinate chicken
1 tbsp Light soy sauce
1 tsp Sesame Oil
1 tsp Garlic paste (finely grated).
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp white pepper
Instructions:
First, cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces.
Mix the pieces of chicken with the marinate ingredients in a bowl. Mix thoroughly and place in a bowl.
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Set aside.
Mix one egg in large bowl. Add one cup corn flour and 2 to 3 tablespoons of water. Mix well to form a thick batter.
Place the chicken pieces marinated in. Mix the batter with the chicken pieces.
To test the oil, heat it to 350°F. It is ready to fry when the oil bubbles up near the chopstick.
Cook the pieces of chicken until golden brown. Transfer the chicken pieces to a cooling rack or towel.
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large pan or wok. Once the oil is heated to medium heat, add the minced ginger and garlic. Stir for a few seconds, then add the crushed chilli. Continue stirring for 10-15 seconds.
Stir the orange sauce into the bowl. Continue stirring until the sauce is reduced to half-way and becomes thick. Mix the orange sauce with the chicken pieces and coat them well. One teaspoon orange zest.
Mix all ingredients together until smooth. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with chopped spring onions and toasted sesame seed.
