These Crispy Burrata Bites with Spicy Dipping Sauce are the kind of appetizer that disappears almost as soon as it hits the table. Creamy burrata is tucked inside a crunchy golden coating and fried until wonderfully crisp, creating an irresistible contrast between the delicate, melty center and the crispy exterior. Paired with a bold, spicy dipping sauce, these bite-sized treats are perfect for parties, date nights, holidays, or whenever you want to impress your guests.
The first time I made these crispy burrata bites for my little family, I thought I had prepared plenty for everyone. I was very wrong! My husband grabbed one straight from the serving plate, took a bite, and immediately came back for another before I had even finished arranging them.
The combination of the crunchy coating and creamy burrata was such a hit that these quickly became our favorite appetizer for casual gatherings. Now, whenever we have friends or family coming over, I know I can count on these little bites disappearing before the main course even arrives. The spicy dipping sauce makes them even more addictive!

Ingredients
Makes about 16–18 bites
For the Burrata Bites
- 10 oz (280 g / 0.62 lb) burrata cheese
- 1 cup (120 g / 0.26 lb) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs — about 3.5 oz (100 g)
- 1 1/2 cups (150 g / 0.33 lb) panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp (2 g) garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp (1 g) Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp (1 g) smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp (3 g) salt
- 1/4 tsp (1 g) freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp (12 g / 0.4 oz) finely grated Parmesan
- Vegetable or avocado oil, for frying
For the Spicy Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup (120 g / 0.26 lb) mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp (30 g) hot sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 g) honey
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1 small garlic clove, finely grated
- 1/4 tsp (1 g) smoked paprika
- Pinch of salt
For Garnishing
- 1 tbsp (4 g) fresh parsley or basil, finely chopped
- Lemon wedges
- A pinch of chili flakes, optional
Directions
- Prepare the burrata: Drain the burrata thoroughly and gently pat it dry with paper towels. Divide it into small portions and carefully shape each piece into a compact bite-sized ball. Place them on a lined tray.
- Chill the cheese: Transfer the burrata portions to the freezer for approximately 20–30 minutes. This firms them up and makes them easier to coat without losing their shape.
- Set up the coating station: Place the flour in one shallow bowl. Beat the eggs in a second bowl. In a third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Coat the burrata: Roll each chilled burrata portion first through the flour, making sure it is lightly covered. Dip it into the beaten egg, then coat thoroughly with the seasoned panko mixture.
- Double-coat for extra crunch: For an especially crispy exterior, dip each coated piece into the egg once more and cover it with another layer of seasoned breadcrumbs. Gently press the crumbs around the cheese so they adhere well.
- Chill again: Place the coated burrata bites on a tray and refrigerate or freeze them for another 15–20 minutes. This helps the coating stay intact during frying.
- Make the dipping sauce: While the bites chill, whisk together the mayonnaise, hot sauce, honey, lemon juice, garlic, smoked paprika, and salt. Taste and adjust the heat according to your preference.
- Heat the oil: Pour enough oil into a deep, heavy-bottomed skillet or saucepan to allow the bites to cook evenly. Heat the oil to approximately 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the burrata: Carefully lower a few coated bites into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for approximately 1–2 minutes, turning gently as needed, until the coating is crisp and golden brown.
- Drain: Transfer the fried bites to a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack. Allow excess oil to drain while you finish cooking the remaining batches.
- Serve: Arrange the crispy burrata bites on a serving platter. Sprinkle with fresh herbs and chili flakes if desired. Serve immediately with the spicy dipping sauce and lemon wedges.
Notes
- Keep the burrata cold: Chilling is especially important because burrata is very soft. Cold cheese is easier to coat and less likely to break apart while frying.
- Dry the cheese well: Excess moisture can prevent the coating from sticking properly and may cause oil to splatter.
- Extra-crispy coating: A double layer of egg and panko creates a sturdier, crunchier shell.
- Control the heat: Add more or less hot sauce depending on how spicy you like your dipping sauce.
- Sauce variations: Try adding a little sriracha, chipotle sauce, or crushed red pepper for a different type of heat.
- Cheese alternative: If burrata is difficult to work with, small pieces of fresh mozzarella can be used, although the center will be less creamy.
- Oil temperature: Keep the oil close to 350°F (175°C). If it is too cool, the bites can become greasy; if it’s too hot, the coating may brown before the cheese is properly warmed.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan: Fry in small batches to maintain the oil temperature and achieve an even golden crust.
- Make ahead: The breaded burrata bites can be prepared and chilled ahead of time. Fry them shortly before serving for the best texture.
- Air-fryer option: For a lighter preparation, lightly spray the coated bites with oil and cook in a preheated air fryer until crisp and golden, checking frequently.
- Serving idea: These bites pair beautifully with a fresh salad, roasted vegetables, sparkling drinks, or a selection of other party appetizers.
- Nutrition: Nutritional values will vary depending on the amount of oil absorbed during frying, the burrata used, and the ingredients in the dipping sauce.
