Turkish Manti are tiny, handmade dumplings filled with seasoned meat, traditionally served with creamy garlic yogurt and a rich, spiced butter sauce. This iconic dish is beloved for its comforting flavors and beautiful presentation. Though it takes a little time to prepare, every bite is worth it—making it a perfect recipe for special meals or when you want to impress your guests.
The first time I made manti at home, it turned into a full family activity. We sat around the table folding the tiny dumplings together, laughing at our different shapes and sizes. My husband couldn’t stop sneaking a few before they were even served! Now, it’s become one of our most cherished traditions—especially on weekends when we slow down and cook together. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a moment we all look forward to.

- 120 ml (0.26 lb) water
- 5 g (0.01 lb) salt
For the Filling:
- 350 g (0.77 lb) ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion (about 120 g / 0.26 lb), finely grated
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Yogurt Sauce:
- 400 g (0.88 lb) plain yogurt
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- Pinch of salt
For the Butter Sauce:
- 60 g (0.13 lb) butter
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Optional: dried mint or chili flakes
Directions:
- Prepare the dough:
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the egg and water, then knead until a firm, smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes. - Make the filling:
Combine the ground meat, grated onion, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well and set aside. - Roll and cut the dough:
Roll the dough thinly on a floured surface. Cut into small squares (about 2–3 cm each). - Fill the dumplings:
Place a small amount of filling in the center of each square. Fold the corners together and pinch to seal, forming tiny dumplings. - Cook the manti:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the dumplings and cook for about 8–10 minutes, or until tender and cooked through. - Prepare the yogurt sauce:
Mix yogurt with garlic and salt until smooth. - Make the butter sauce:
Melt butter in a small pan and stir in paprika (and mint or chili flakes if using). Cook briefly until fragrant. - Assemble the dish:
Drain the manti and place them on a serving plate. Spoon the garlic yogurt over the top, then drizzle with the warm spiced butter. - Serve:
Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!

- Time-Saving Tip: You can make the dumplings ahead of time and freeze them for later use.

- Yogurt Tip: Use thick, full-fat yogurt for the best creamy texture.
- Serving Idea: Add a sprinkle of dried mint or sumac for extra flavor.
- Storage: Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat gently.
