Spicy, buttery, lemony – my favourite combination in one. A dish worth getting messy for. Super good you’ll be licking your fingers and plate clean!
2 tbsp butter
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1/4 c. hot sauce (or to taste)
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
1/3 c. beer, wine, or broth
2 tbsp lemon juice (1/2 lemon)
2 tsp creole seasoning
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tbsp butter, chilled and cut into 1/2” pieces
salt to taste
How to make New Orleans BBQ Shrimp
Step 1: In a pan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, add the garlic. Saute for about 30 seconds until aromatic. Then, add in the hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, beer, lemon juice, creole seasoning, and pepper. Allow to simmer and continue to cook for another 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce has reduced by half.
Step 2: Add the shrimp to the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. The cooking time depends on the size of the shrimp.
Step 3: Adjust the heat to medium-low, then add in the chilled butter and stir until melted. To taste, season with salt.
Step 4: Serve with French bread. Enjoy!
Add the hot sauce a little at a time until you reach your desired level of heat.
Go easy on the creole seasoning as they have different amounts of salt. Add it a little at a time. For this recipe, I used homemade creole seasoning.
Alternately, you can add cornstarch mixed with water to thicken the sauce instead of simmering the sauce to reduce it by half. This will save you time.
If desired, garnish with sliced green onions and chopped parsley before serving.
