If you love the famous cheesy biscuits served at Red Lobster, you’re going to adore this Cheese Biscuit Loaf version. Packed with rich cheddar cheese and brushed with a savory garlic butter topping, this bread makes an amazing side dish for dinner or a delicious snack all on its own.
The first time I made this cheese biscuit loaf, the smell of melted cheese and garlic butter filled the kitchen so quickly that my husband came in asking what was baking. When it came out of the oven, warm and golden, we sliced it immediately. My family loved how soft and cheesy it was, and the garlic butter topping made it even better. Now, every time we make pasta, soup, or even a simple salad dinner, this loaf somehow becomes the highlight of the meal.

-
2 cups all-purpose flour (about 250 g / 0.55 lb)
-
1 tablespoon baking powder (about 12 g / 0.03 lb)
-
½ teaspoon salt (about 3 g / 0.007 lb)
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder (about 3 g / 0.007 lb)
-
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 120 g / 0.26 lb)
-
1 cup milk (about 240 g / 0.53 lb)
-
¼ cup melted butter (about 56 g / 0.12 lb)
-
1 large egg (about 50 g / 0.11 lb)
For the Garlic Butter Topping
-
3 tablespoons melted butter (about 42 g / 0.09 lb)
-
½ teaspoon garlic powder (about 1.5 g / 0.003 lb)
-
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (about 4 g / 0.009 lb)
Directions
-
Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a loaf pan. -
Combine dry ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. -
Add the cheese
Stir the shredded cheddar cheese into the dry ingredients so it distributes evenly. -
Mix the wet ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and egg until smooth. -
Make the batter
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the loaf tender. -
Bake the loaf
Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. -
Prepare the topping
Mix the melted butter with garlic powder and chopped parsley. -
Finish the loaf
As soon as the loaf comes out of the oven, brush the garlic butter mixture over the top. -
Serve
Allow the loaf to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
-
Use sharp cheddar: It provides the strongest cheesy flavor in the bread.
-
Don’t overmix: Overmixing the batter can make the loaf dense instead of soft.
-
Add extra flavor: A pinch of paprika or onion powder can enhance the taste.
-
Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or 4 days in the refrigerator.
-
Reheating tip: Warm slices in the oven or air fryer for a few minutes to bring back the fresh-baked texture.
