Tips:

-Be sure to thaw the frozen beef patties before cooking. This will help them cook evenly.
-If you don’t have time to make your own beef broth, you can use beef bouillon cubes or granules dissolved in boiling water.
-I like to add a bit of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy for extra flavor.
-The key to fluffy mashed potatoes is to use starchy potatoes, such as Russets, and to not overmix them. Be sure to start with hot milk and butter so the potatoes absorb them better.

Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 2 pounds Lean Ground Beef
  • 2/3 cup Seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Beef Bouillon Granuals
  • 4-5 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Ketchup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Gravy:

  • 1 medium Onion diced
  • 8 ounces of white mushrooms sliced (can be subdivided into two 3 ounce containers).
  • 32 ounces Beef Broth
  • 4 dashes Worcestershire
  • 1 Tablespoon Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Kitchen Bouquet
  • 3 Tablespoons Corn Starch dissolved in 3 Tablespoons Water
  • Salt & Pepper to your liking

Instructions

  • Combine the ground beef and all other meat ingredients in a bowl. Form into balls. My balls were slightly larger than a golfball. Add a few Tablespoons oil to a skillet. Once the oil has melted, heat up the meatballs and brown them on medium heat. Rotate them frequently so that they don't burn. When they have browned evenly in the pan, take them out of the pan and place them on a plate.
  • Take out any grease. Don't wash. Add 2 Tablespoons butter to the pan and stir in your sliced onion. On medium heat, cook for 5-10 minutes. The onions will turn golden brown and become tender and fragrant. Add mushrooms. Cook for another few minutes. Turn down the heat to medium, and then add in the beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Stir, and let simmer for 10 minutes. Mix in your Kitchen Bouquet. Mix well. Gravy will thicken. Salt and pepper to taste. The meatballs should be returned to the gravy. Turn heat down and cover the skillet. Cover the skillet with gravy and cook meatballs for 20-30 minutes. These will tenderize them, so be careful when stirring.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes
