Preheat oven to 350°F
Over medium heat, heat a large nonstick skillet.
In a large skillet, add the ground beef and chopped onions.
As the meat cooks, crumble it.
Drain the grease from your pan once the ground beef has been cooked to perfection.
Reduce heat to medium-low
To the skillet, add the cream of mushroom soup as well as the milk.
Stir until all the ground beef has been thoroughly coated in the soup.
Use cooking spray to coat a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Spread the ground beef mixture in a baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the butter, salt, pepper and onion powder.
Mix well
Mix the hashbrowns into the bowl. Stir well.
Mix 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese into the bowl. Stir well.
Place the hash browns on top the ground beef mixture in a baking dish.
Bake the casserole dish in the oven until golden brown. It will take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
Place the baking dish in the oven. Sprinkle the remaining half-cup of cheese on top.
Just until the cheese has melted, return the dish to the oven. It should take approximately 5 minutes.
Allow the casserole to cool in the oven for about 5 minutes.
