Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line an extra-large baking sheet, or use two smaller ones, with foil and lightly spray them with cooking spray.
- Spread the Crispix cereal and chopped pecans evenly on the prepared baking sheets. Set them aside.
- In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the salted butter and brown sugar. Stir continuously and allow the mixture to boil for two minutes.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the cereal and nuts, tossing to ensure they are evenly coated.
- Bake the mixture for 8 minutes, remove it from the oven, stir it, and then bake for an additional 8 minutes.
- Allow the "Crack Snack" to cool on the baking sheets, breaking apart any large clumps with a wooden spoon or spatula.
Notes
To simplify cleanup, use foil or parchment paper to line your baking sheets.
For a different twist, you can use unsalted butter and adjust the sweetness by adding a bit of salt to the caramel sauce.
Stirring the mix halfway through the baking time ensures even toasting and prevents burning.
You can also experiment with different nuts, such as peanuts, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, or mixed nuts.
Get creative by adding other snacks like Cheez Its, Goldfish cheese crackers, pretzels, bagel chips, Bugles, or sesame sticks for a unique variation.
If you enjoy a bit of heat, add a touch of cayenne to the butter mixture for a spicy version of this classic snack mix.
