Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (177ºC) and grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded hash browns, sour cream, cream of mushroom soup, salt (if using), and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Add 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and stir to combine.
  4. Spread the mixture into the prepared baking pan and bake for 35 minutes.
  5. Remove the casserole from the oven and add the remaining cup of shredded cheddar cheese and sliced smoked sausage on top.
  6. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the casserole is heated through.
