Old-Fashioned Goulash Recipe

Old Fashioned Goulash is a deliciously simple recipe with ground beef, tomatoes, and macaroni. You may have eaten this retro Goulash recipe as a kid.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 lbs Ground Beef/ Ground Turkey
  • 1 large Yellow Onion diced
  • 3 large cloves Garlic either pressed or finely chopped
  • 2 large Bay Leaves
  • 1 cup Low-Sodium Beef Broth* chicken soup if you are using ground turkey
  • 2 - 14.5 ounce cans Diced tomatoes with juice or stewed tomatoes
  • Tomato Sauce in 2 - 15-ounce Cans
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce or Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Seasoned salt such as Johnny's(r.)
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Italian Seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon Paprika
  • 2 cups uncooked small elbow macaroni

Instructions
 

  • On medium heat, heat a soup pot or dutch oven. Once the oil is heated, add the ground beef and turkey. Cook the ground beef or turkey, stirring occasionally, until it is browned. It should take approximately 10 minutes. Take out some extra fat.
  • Add the chopped onion, garlic, bay leaves, and cook for 4 minutes. Cook for 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Mix in the broth, tomatoes, tomato sauce and soy sauce. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and paprika. Stir well.
  • Reduce heat to low and cover the pan. Cook for 15 minutes stirring occasionally.
  • Mix in the uncooked macaroni noodles, cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the pasta is tender.
  • Discard bay leaves and then serve.
